Renewing a Hamilton County Registration

- Renew in Person: To renew a registration in person
bring the preprinted form mailed from the state office to the Courthouse
or Bonny Oaks Branch. If you don't have the form you can use your last
tag receipt or tag number. One exception is if the plate has been expired
for 90 days or longer, the state form must be used. If you cannot locate
that form a duplicate can be printed for $3.00. Either husband or wife
can renew without the form, if the registration is in joint ownership.
Photo I.D. is required. However, a notarized
Power of Attorney
signed by the owner or owners is required if a third party is sent to
apply for a renewal. You may obtain a one-time power of attorney form
at the Clerk's office for this purpose, phone 423/209-6525 or print
the HTML version from our forms website.
- Renew by Mail: Service is available for Tennessee motorist
renewing an annual registration. Simply send all copies of the State preprinted form or your current
tag receipt with your correct address, to Bill Knowles, County Clerk,
PO Box 24868, Chattanooga, Tennessee, 37422-4868. Include local check
payable to the Hamilton County Clerk drawn on the account of the registered
owner. No generic, counter, or second party checks, please. Please add
the mail fee shown in the upper corner of your form to the subtotal
shown on the renewal document. Make checks payable to the County Clerk.
Orders are normally filled and mailed the same date received by Clerk's
office.
- Internet Renewal: Service is available for Tennessee motorists
renewing an annual registration. You will need:
- Valid Credit Card (VISA, MasterCard, Discover)
- PLUS -
EITHER your current tag receipt
OR your state renewal notice
OR your tag

Renewing a TN registration when new to Hamilton County
|
You must renew in person the first time you register in Hamilton County.

In addition to information above,
City Of
Chattanooga residents may include an additional $5.00 for purchase of
the Chattanooga City Sticker.
